Derecho disaster deadline extended
Advertiser

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The deadline for West Virginians affected by a destructive summer storm has been extended to Dec. 19.

Individual assistance can be used to pay for home repairs, rental assistance, disaster-related medical, dental and funeral expenses, and repair or replacement of uninsured personal property. The June 29 derecho and subsequent storms left three people dead and more than 680,000 customers without electricity across the state.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency says the deadline is being extended because many who were affected by the derecho also suffered through Hurricane Sandy.

Twenty West Virginia counties have been designated disaster locations.

Those wishing to apply should visit the website http://www.DisasterAssistance.gov, or call 800-621-3362.
