City garbage bag pick-up continues next week

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Distribution of free garbage bags to Charleston city residents continues next week along McFarland Street next to the City Service Center and parking garage.

City Refuse Department crews will set up along McFarland so residents with coupons can drive through and pick up their bags.

Bags will be available between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26 - Friday, Nov. 30.

People driving must turn onto McFarland Street from Quarrier Street and have their official coupon from the city.

Due to bag distribution, access from Virginia Street into the city parking garage will be restricted at 9 a.m. every morning.

City officials have decided to add the new distribution site and process because in recent years "residents have chosen to wait until after the main distribution period and pick up their bags at the City Service Center," according to a release from mayoral assistant Rod Blackstone.
