RIPLEY, W.Va. -- School officials in Jackson County discovered that about one dozen two-way radios had been stolen from school buses Friday morning, police said.

Ripley Sgt. C.E. Kenny said Jackson County Board of Education employees arriving after Thanksgiving break discovered someone had scaled a fence and stolen about 12 radios from parked school buses.

The theft occurred between about 2 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Friday, Kenny said.

Detectives are checking area pawnshops because the brand of radios that were stolen are popular with ham radio operators, he said.

So far there are no leads and Kenny asks anyone with information to call the Ripley Police Department at 304-372-4711.
