MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- An Eastern Regional Jail inmate faces charges of beating a correctional officer who had ordered him to put on a shirt.

The Journal newspaper reported Tuesday that 29-year-old Jeremy Allen Billings was charged with felony malicious assault on a government representative.

According to court records, the correctional officer suffered multiple lacerations to the right side of his face during the Saturday night incident and was taken to a hospital in Martinsburg. The officer wasn't identified.

Another correctional officer, who was in a tower viewing the area, told investigators that Billings hit his colleague multiple times with his fist and the officer's radio.

Billings also was injured during the incident and taken to the hospital. He was returned to the jail after treatment.
