Martinsburg man gets probation for cat-kicking video
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A Martinsburg man will spend two years on probation for making a video of a boy kicking a cat off a porch.
Naim Robert Carter, 18, also must perform 300 hours of community service.
The Journal newspaper reported that Carter pleaded guilty Monday to misdemeanor animal cruelty. Berkeley County Magistrate Sandra Miller sentenced him to six months in jail, then suspended the sentence.
According to court records, a woman and her daughter saw the video posted on the Internet and reported it to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department on July 28. The video showed a 14-year-old boy kicking the cat off a porch while Carter cheered and encouraged him.
Prosecutors wouldn't say if the 14-year-old was charged because he is a juvenile.
