Kanawha County Association of Retired School Employees will hold its Christmas dinner at 4 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Fifth Quarter restaurant. Members will fill Christmas bags for the Shanklin Center for the elderly and the McCormick House for abused women and children.
Historic Glenwood Foundation will hold a holiday open house at Glenwood, also known as the Laidley-Summers-Quarrier House, from 2 to 5 p.m. Dec. 9. The house is at the corner of Park Avenue and Orchard Street, across from Stonewall Jackson Middle School. The home was built in 1852 under the supervision of English stonemason William Preston, and was built for Madison Laidley and later sold to former congressman George Summers.
Greenbrier Historical Society will host its annual holiday open house Dec. 18 at the North House Museum in Lewisburg. As part of the festivities, museum coordinator Toni Ogden will lead a free Hands-on-History workshop for children from noon until 3 p.m. Children of all ages are invited to drop by and craft a special pinecone ornament and discover the history of Christmas in America.
