CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Federal disaster response officials say it may be spring before all the debris left by superstorm Sandy is removed from public property in West Virginia.
FEMA branch chief Gary Brand says Sandy left as much as 1 million cubic yards of debris on public property. He said if you stack that much debris 3-feet high and 3-feet wide, it would extend more than 568 miles.
FEMA and the state are paying for debris removal. Contractors are being hired to complete the task.
