WHEELING, W.Va. -- A West Virginia dermatologist has been charged with health care fraud in a 23-count federal indictment that says he fraudulently billed Medicare and Medicaid.

U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld says 58-year-old Dr. Allen Saoud of Clarksburg was the sole owner and officer of AGS Inc. in Bridgeport.

Saoud also is charged with filing false tax returns and a bankruptcy document, obstructing federal internal revenue laws, and making false statements to a federal agent.

He faces 12 counts of bankruptcy fraud as well.

Ihlenfeld says Saoud was an osteopath who specialized in dermatology.

The indictment handed up Tuesday in Wheeling also seeks the forfeiture of about $850,000 that prosecutors say Saoud illegally obtained.

The phone to AGS Inc. has been disconnected. Two residential listings for Allen Saoud aren't accepting messages.
