Man faces kidnap, endangerment charges

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A woman jumped from a moving car in an attempt to get away from a man who was taking her at gunpoint to a hotel, police say.

Police arrested Jeremy Peters, 32, of Whitesville, and charged him with kidnapping and wanton endangerment after the Saturday incident.

Peters was allegedly giving the victim, Kristen Hoffman, a ride from South Charleston to her home in Charleston.

According to the criminal complaint, Hoffman agreed to have sex with Peters for $250, but wanted to go to her home.

Peters wanted to go to a hotel room, police say. The man became angry, and pointed a handgun at the woman's face, yelling, "We're getting a hotel room," according to police.

When Peters locked the doors of the vehicle, Hoffman grabbed the handgun and jumped from the vehicle, which was moving at more than 40 miles per hour, according to the complaint.

The woman was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center for treatment.

Peters is being held without bond at South Central Regional Jail.
