Couple arrested following joyride
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A southern West Virginia couple is in jail after allegedly stealing a car in Boone County and taking it for a joyride on Sunday.
Capt. Sean Crosier of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department said Deputy J.L. Miller was on his way to sheriff's department headquarters at about 6:30 p.m. when he saw a black Ford Taurus run a red light in downtown Charleston. A quick check showed that both the car and the license plate had been reported stolen on Saturday.
The driver, Cody Allen Dalton, 20, of Lorado in Logan County, and his fiancee, Chasity Wilson, 20, of Foster in Boone County, allegedly told Miller they had been visiting family in Madison on Saturday, but didn't have any transportation. So Crosier said they began looking around for a car with the keys in the ignition.
Crosier said the pair allegedly found the Taurus unattended and took the car. They later drove to Logan, where they allegedly stole a license plate, before heading to Charleston for a shopping spree at the Charleston Town Center. Crosier said they allegedly pawned a high-powered rifle that was in the car for cash.
Dalton and Wilson were arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and transferring and receiving stolen property. They were in the South Central Regional Jail today in lieu of $10,000 bond each.Reach Rusty Marks at firstname.lastname@example.org or 304-348-1215.
