CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Jane already had one child to feed when she found out that a relative had died, leaving her four children in foster care.
Without hesitation, Jane took the children into her home. She became an early 30s, single mother of five overnight. That also meant she needed four more of everything. Mountain Mission answered the call.
Jane needed beds, blankets, pillows and clothes before she could bring the girls home. Workers at Mountain Mission helped the family get what they needed.
"Her extraordinary compassion for these girls and desire to provide them with a good stable life was inspiring to see," said Mountain Mission social services manager Michelle Maack.
Mountain Mission is a Christian-based nonprofit group that gives financial assistance to needy families and provides them supplies. The organization has two thrift stores, one on 3671 7th Ave. and one on 1620 7th Ave.
Mountain Mission also has a furniture bank and an assistance center, which this Christmas is helping to make sure families have food. Each family that qualifies for the program will be provided a food basket with a 14-pound turkey, a 10-pound bag of potatoes, canned vegetables and other food items along with gospel music.
