LOGAN, W.Va. -- A 9-year-old chess whiz from Logan has been added to the 2013 all-America team.

Advait "Adi" Patel is joining a team made up of the very best players of the board game under the age of 18.

The Logan Banner said members are selected based on a rating and activities during the year.

Adi is a sixth-grade student who says he learned the game from his grandfather two years ago after he became bored with other games.

Now the tables are turned. Adi says he can beat his grandfather at the game he taught him.

Adi's next competition will be the North American Open, the biggest tournament in the country. It's held in late December in Las Vegas.
