Foul play suspected in Wyoming County death

SIMON, W.Va. -- West Virginia State Police suspect foul play in the death of a Wyoming County man whose body was found lying along a road on Tuesday.

Steven Ray Lawrence, 35, of Simon, was last seen alive on Dec. 8, and was reported as missing to Wyoming County sheriff's deputies the next day, according to West Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous.

Lawrence's body was found along Coal Mountain Road, near Long Branch Hollow, on Tuesday, Baylous said. Authorities are treating the death as a homicide.

Wyoming County deputies and troopers for the Jesse State Police detachment are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's department at 304-732-8000 or State Police detachment at 304-682-4717.
