A Fayette County doctor and his secretary were arrested Friday and charged with conspiracy and delivery of a controlled substance in connection with an alleged plot to trade pills for sexual favors.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Fayette County doctor and his secretary were arrested Friday and charged with conspiracy and delivery of a controlled substance in connection with an alleged plot to trade pills for sexual favors.
Dr. Oscar Gosien, 73, and his secretary, Kathy Treadway, 54, were arrested in Gosien's office on Lamplighter Road in Oak Hill, according to Fayette County Sheriff Steve Kessler.
Kessler said the arrests were the result of a long investigation by the Central West Virginia Drug Task Force, Fayette County Sheriff's Department, Oak Hill Police Department and West Virginia State Police, Kessler said. Additional criminal charges are expected, he said.
"We have been receiving complaints about Dr. Gosien for a long time," Kessler said in a news release. "Investigators have obtained numerous statements alleging that Dr. Gosien frequently provides various prescription medications to female patients in exchange for sexual favors from those females.
"Pills prescribed by Dr. Gosien have also been linked to several drug overdose deaths in Fayette County in recent years," Kessler said.
"It's bad enough that we have people selling illegal drugs on the streets and breaking into homes to steal prescription medication," Kessler added. "What we have with this case is a licensed drug dealer -- a physician -- who has abused his oath as a medical doctor and who has allegedly been trading prescription pills for sexual favors.
"Residents of this county have died from the abuse of these prescription pills that were prescribed by Dr. Gosien, and this is unacceptable to me, as the elected sheriff of Fayette County," the sheriff said.
Kessler said the case remains under investigation. Kessler said Gosien and Treadway were awaiting arraignment Friday evening.
