MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- A robotics team from West Virginia University has been selected to participate in the Robo-Ops competition for the second consecutive year.
Officials say the Mountaineer Robotics team will take part in the event scheduled for June at NASA's Johnson Space Center's Rock Yard in Houston. This year's team also is partnering with students from Bluefield State College.

Officials say the Mountaineer Robotics team will take part in the event scheduled for June at NASA's Johnson Space Center's Rock Yard in Houston. This year's team also is partnering with students from Bluefield State College.
Each team receives a $10,000 stipend to help offset the development costs of a Mars rover, materials, testing equipment, hardware and software.
Rovers will compete under the supervision of NASA judges. They must negotiate a series of obstacles while accomplishing a variety of tasks.
Some members of the team will travel to the Johnson Space Center for the on-site testing. Other team members will stay behind in Morgantown to conduct "mission control'' tasks.
