CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- In a familiar refrain to many West Virginia residents, the National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for much of the northern and eastern parts of the state for Saturday.

Several inches of snow were possible in the state's northern and eastern panhandles, as well as the eastern mountains, according to the weather service.

As of late Friday afternoon, advisories had also been issued for Tyler, Pleasants and Wood counties along the Ohio River, and for Summers, Greenbrier and Monroe counties in the southeastern part of the state.
