Rand Community Center: will host a benefit hotdog sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 at the center located on the corner of Harvard and Church streets. Proceeds will go to Alicia Petry, age 22, who is in need of a heart transplant.

Department of Environmental Protection: is seeking volunteers for its Water Festival, which is held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily, May 23 and 24. The deadline to sign up to volunteer is Jan. 18. The program is for fifth graders and provides an outdoor classroom with educators in the fields of conservation, environment, pollution control, wildlife and other areas. Some of the volunteer duties include information dissemination, tour advisors, meal distribution, bus parking assistance, supply distribution and assisting the educators.
