CROSS LANES, W.Va. -- A couple with a baby was robbed at gunpoint late Sunday at a Cross Lanes motel.

Jacquelyn A. Thomas, 25, of Cross Lanes told deputies that she, her boyfriend, Bryant Adkins, and her baby were staying at the Motel 6 on Goff Mountain Road when she heard a knock at the door at about 11:20 p.m., according to Capt. Bryan Robbins of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.

Thomas said she knew the man, so she opened the door. After a short time, the man allegedly said, "I hate to do this in front of the baby," and pulled out a gun. Robbins said he then allegedly ordered Thomas and Adkins to turn over their valuables.

Thomas allegedly turned over her purse, which contained her identification and about $200. The man allegedly said he would come back to kill Thomas and Adkins if they called police.

He allegedly left in a maroon-colored Oldsmobile Alero, possibly driven by a woman, Robbins said.
