Marshall sponsoring history lecture series

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall University's College of Liberal Arts is sponsoring a lecture series examining West Virginia's history and culture.

Four regional scholars will present talks over the next three months.

Riverboat historian Gerald W. Sutphin will kick off the lecture series on Jan. 22. John C. Allen Jr. will discuss early Jefferson County architecture on Feb. 5.

Jack Dickinson will talk about the railroad history of southern West Virginia on March 6. And B.J. Peyton will speak on the Civil War in the Kanawha Valley on April 16.

The lectures will take place in the Erickson Alumni Center in Huntington. They are free and open to the public.
