CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A St. Albans couple broke into a Clendenin home on two different occasions and attempted to take money and other valuables, police say.

Police arrested Marty Shane Atwell, 38, and Alesha D. Goodwin, 27, and charged them both with daytime burglary following an investigation.

Kanawha County Sheriff's Detective M.P. Knapp said he learned that sometime in December, Atwell and Goodwin broke into 4030 Spencer Rd. in Clendenin "to look around," according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

The couple later returned to the house on New Year's Eve and allegedly stole numerous items by stuffing them into a duffel bag. When they saw a truck coming along the road, Goodwin fled through the woods and Atwell fled in his vehicle parked nearby, according to the complaint. He allegedly left the duffel bag behind in the driveway.

Atwell and Goodwin are currently being held in the South Central Regional Jail, each in lieu of $100,000 bail.
