CLARKSBURG, W.Va. -- A Democratic committee will nominate three candidates to fill a vacant seat in the West Virginia Senate.

Democrat Joe Minard of Harrison County resigned the 12th Senatorial District seat Wednesday following his election as Senate clerk. The district includes Harrison, Lewis, Gilmer and Braxton counties.

Media outlets report that the 12th Senatorial District Democratic Executive Committee plans to meet this evening to choose three nominees to replace Minard.

The committee will then submit its nominees to Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, who will make the appointment.
