ST.ALBANS, W.Va. -- A 70-year-old woman was found dead at her home near St. Albans Thursday morning, but deputies said they were treating it as a medical case after initially considering it a potential homicide.

A family member found the woman on the floor of her home on Geronimo Drive and called 911 at about 9 a.m., according to Cpl. B.D. Humphreys with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.

Humphreys said the initial caller said the woman had a phone cord wrapped around her neck. But a Kanawha County sheriff's deputy on the scene said the woman was lying on the cord, and she may have just been trying to make a phone call. The deputy said the department would treat the incident as a medical matter, pending autopsy results.

Geronimo Drive, in the Indian Head subdivision near the Coal River, was the scene of three suspicious fires in just more than 36 hours earlier this week.
