Sixty-one state teachers receive national certification

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia now has nearly 700 nationally certified teachers.

The Department of Education says 61 teachers received National Board Certification in 2012. That brings the state's total to 696.

The department says National Board Certification means the teachers have successfully demonstrated advanced teaching knowledge, skills and practices.

Wood County leads the state with 79 nationally certified teachers, followed by Cabell County with 55 and Monongalia County with 46.
