CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- James Heady will be the new vice president of audience development and director of circulation for Charleston Newspapers, CN President Trip Shumate announced.

Heady, a native of Kentucky, has been in the newspaper business since he started with the Louisville Courier-Journal in 1976.

Over the years, he has held a variety of sales and circulation positions at newspapers including the Huntington Herald-Dispatch and, most recently, Canada's Winnipeg Free Press.

Heady, a graduate of Murray State University, takes over for former circulation director Jerry Briggs, who was named CN's advertising director upon the retirement of longtime ad director Larry Levak.

The duties of a newspaper circulation director include building and maintaining readership and overseeing the delivery of newspapers.
