Man killed by Mercer County deputy
Advertiser

MONTCALM, W.Va. -- West Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal police shooting in Mercer County.

Sheriff Don Meadows says a deputy responding to a domestic violence call in Montcalm shot a man Saturday night.

Meadows tells the Bluefield Daily Telegraph that the man confronted the deputy with a weapon and ignored repeated requests to drop it.

Meadows declined to say what type of weapon the man had. He said the domestic violence incident involved a chain saw.

The deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.

The names of the man and the deputy weren't released.

It's the second fatal police shooting in the state over the weekend. Two Kanawha County sheriff's deputies shot and killed a man Saturday evening after he fired a pistol at them.
