FUTURE EVENTS

Alpha Theta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa will have their business meeting at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Dunbar. For information, call Ethel Rooper at 304-562-3121.

Americorps/Vet Corps and American Red Cross will sponsor a "Continuing the Dream" event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Center, Martin Luther King Jr. Center, 314 Donnally St. Food, games, prizes, storytime and a guest speaker will be featured. The event promotes historical awareness and community resource/referral.  

Kanawha Trail Club will sponsor a hike at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday on the Thurmond/Minden Rail Trail. Carpool from Ohio and Randolph streets and regroup at trailhead parking on W.Va. 25 near Thurmond. The hike is approximately 6 1/2 miles, is mostly level terrain, easy staircase and good views of Thurmond. A shorter version is available: Hike in and out as far as you would like. In case of bad weather, an alternate hike will be in Kanawha State Forest on Johnson Hollow/Logtown trails loop for approximately 2 miles.

North House Museum will join Lewisburg's Martin Luther King's Day celebrations at 2:30 p.m. on Monday with a Hands-on-History Hour for school age children. North House Museum is located in Lewisburg. There is no charge. The project will be constructing an accordion book. Using Martin Luther King Jr.'s text as inspiration, students will then decorate and fill their book with three personal wishes; one for their own lives, one for their community and one for our country or the world. Hurricane Civic Chorus will begin practice for the spring semester at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church in Hurricane. The chorus is under the direction of Dr. Larry Stickler, with Tom Minshall at the piano and organ. Rehearsals are the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Dues are $30 a semester. No auditions are required and membership is not restricted to Hurricane residents. Their next performance will be at 6:30 p.m. on March 22 in the Putnam Commons for the Civil War Weekend.
