SHINNSTON, W.Va. -- Bath salts and other synthetic drugs are now illegal in Shinnston.

The Exponent Telegram reported that the City Council unanimously voted this week to ban the substances within city limits. The ordinance outlaws bath salts, K-2 and other synthetic drugs based on their chemical composition and labeling.

Violators would face a $500 fine.

The Clarksburg City Council has approved a similar ban.
