Dunbar mayor won't seek another term

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Dunbar Mayor Jack Yeager said he is not running for re-election.

Yeager was first appointed in 2008 to fill the unexpired term of former Dunbar Mayor Roger Wolfe, who was removed from office. In 2009, at the end of that term, Yeager ran for the office and was elected.

But Yeager, 75, said he decided not to run for another term.

"I didn't file for it this time," Yeager said.

"I came in with an agenda, and I had eight or 10 goals to accomplish," he said. "I've accomplished most of them."

Yeager said most of what he wanted to do as mayor has either been done or is being done. He wanted to straighten out the town's financial situation, and said he helped do so. He also wanted to work on revising the city's ordinances, which is underway.

Yeager said he also helped set up a city recreation program and worked with Dunbar City Council to bring economic development to town. "We just opened up four more businesses in the city," he said.
