SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Ed Hughes, an author and the founder of the Loved Ones group, will speak at the group's Thomas Memorial Hospital branch Jan. 24.

Hughes is the author of "Baffled by Addiction? Successful strategies to help your addicted loved one."

Loved Ones is for families of those struggling with addictions.

"It's not a support group. It's more an education group," said Cathy Caruthers, clinical coordinator of outpatient services at the South Charleston hospital. "It lets them know how to deal with a loved one who has an addiction problem."

The free, confidential group meets at 6 p.m. each Thursday in the Southway Group Room in the Haddad Professional Building at 4825 MacCorkle Ave. SW, South Charleston.

Each session typically lasts an hour, but Hughes will be there early, about 5:15 p.m., to answer questions, Caruthers said.
