Ski industry representatives will join the governor in Charleston today as he proclaims January as "Learn To Ski and Snowboard Month'' in the state.
This season has been a mixed bag for West Virginia resorts.
Snowshoe Mountain opened early after Superstorm Sandy dropped nearly 28 inches of snow in Pocahontas County. But Winterplace, Timberline and Canaan Valley resorts didn't open until late December. And Ohio County's Oglebay Resort opened for skiers and snowboarders on New Year's Eve.
Still, industry officials say ski visits are up so far compared with last year, when the weather was milder at the start of the season.
West Virginia resorts draw more than 800,000 skier visits a year.
