Charleston firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze that began inside the basement of 4404 Kanawha Ave. S.E. on Friday. The fire began inside a furnace and traveled up through a vent to the home's roof. The fire was reported at about 11:30 a.m. and was extinguished by noon. No one was injured and the homeowners were able to drive their cars out of their garage as a precaution. Firefighters climbed the roof to stop the blaze before it could spread.
