KINGWOOD, W.Va. -- More than 100 chickens, rabbits, dogs and goats have been removed from a Preston County residence after an inspection found several dead and malnourished animals.

The Dominion Post reports that the animals were seized this week after the Preston County Sheriff's Department was tipped that the animals at a Kingwood residence were not being properly cared for. When they went to the residence, they found eight dead rabbits, one dead dog and other animals that were malnourished.

Sgt. J.L. Root Jr. says 61 chickens, 34 rabbits, seven dogs and five goats were seized Thursday and taken to a shelter.

Root said charges are pending against the owner of the animals. The owner was not identified.

It's the second large animal seizure in the county since November.
