CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Police arrested a Charleston man after they said he threw a pot of boiling water onto a woman early Saturday.

Wade Henry Chester, 61, of 307A 1/2 Roane Street, was charged with felony malicious wounding, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court by Charleston Police Cpl. P.S. Kapeluck.

Police said just after midnight Saturday, Chester picked up a pot of boiling water and threw it on Carolyn Carter inside his apartment. The water landed on Carter's chest causing severe burns and disfiguration, according to the complaint.

Kapeluck said Carter's skin turned from black to bright pink as detectives photographed her injuries. Paramedics took her to CAMC General Hospital for treatment.

Chester was arraigned before Kanawha County Magistrate Joe Shelton and ordered held in South Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $10,000 cash-only bail.
