CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency has disbursed more than $2.5 million to state and local governments since Superstorm Sandy.
FEMA's Charleston branch chief Gary Brand said Monday that covers 64 projects. But FEMA will likely dole out $13 million altogether, with another 180 projects.
Sandy dumped more than 2 feet of snow in the highest elevations, toppling trees and tearing down power lines in October.
The governor's office says the storm destroyed 36 homes, caused major damage to 56 and minor damage to 120. In the counties that were hit the hardest, the Small Business Association estimates 40 businesses had uninsured losses topping $2.4 million.
Eighteen counties were eligible for federal assistance to repair or replace public property such as buildings, roads and bridges, and parks.
Individual assistance wasn't approved.
