Police investigate Fayette County home invasion
HILLTOP, W.Va. -- Two men broke into a Fayette County home and beat a man in the head with a space heater before stealing a gun Tuesday, police said.
Shortly after noon, 911 dispatchers were notified of a home invasion and robbery at 1078 Prudence Road in Hilltop, Fayette County Sheriff Steve Kessler said in a news release.
Deputies responded and found the 58-year-old homeowner with serious head injuries. He was taken to Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill where he remains in an unreported condition. His name has not been released.
Kessler said deputies learned two masked men had forced their way into the home by knocking out a window. The men picked up an electric space heater nearby and beat the homeowner in the head while he slept, Kessler said.
He said the men were apparently looking for drugs but stole only a stainless-steel Walther PK380 .380 pistol.
There is no description of the suspects and deputies are investigating.
"We do not have a lot of information to go on at this point," Kessler said. "We have one of our tracking K9s on scene, and deputies are saturating the area in an attempt to locate the perpetrators."
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fayette County 911 Center at 304-574-1610 or Crime Stoppers at 304-255-7867.
