WAYNE, W.Va. -- An assistant superintendent for Wayne County schools has been named superintendent.

Media outlets report county school board members voted 3-1 Tuesday night to offer Lynn Hurt the position. She was among three finalists to replace Gary Adkins, who cited health reasons when he resigned in October.

Mike Ferguson had served as interim superintendent during the search for a permanent replacement.

Hurt also had stints as an elementary and high school principal.
