A former inmate at the U.S. Penitentiary at Hazelton has been convicted of obstructing justice by retaliating against a witness.
CLARKSBURG, W.Va. -- A former inmate at the U.S. Penitentiary at Hazelton has been convicted of obstructing justice by retaliating against a witness.
Forty-two-year-old Tarvis Leviticus Dunham was convicted Tuesday of six federal charges after a trial before U.S. District Judge Irene Keeley in Clarksburg. They include five counts of assaulting prison officers.
Prosecutors say Dunham retaliated against a female case manager who produced records during a Bureau of Prisons disciplinary proceeding about an incident that had occurred in the fall of 2010.
Dunham assaulted the case manager in June 2011, then kicked and bit the guards who tried to restrain him. He was transferred to a U.S. Penitentiary in Virginia the same day, where he was already serving 26 years for other crimes.
He now faces up to 89 more years.
