Break-in try prompts lockdown at 3 state schools

FOLLANSBEE, W.Va. -- Police in Brooke County are searching for a suspect after a break-in attempt at a home prompted three nearby schools to be placed on temporary lockdown.

Brooke County Sheriff Chuck Jackson tells WTOV-TV of Steubenville, Ohio, that a man tried to force his way into a home after knocking on the front door Wednesday morning. The woman who answered shut the door and the man fled.

Brooke County schools facilities director Rob Robinson says three area schools were then placed on lockdown as a precaution. The lockdowns were lifted about 45 minutes later.

The suspect remained uncaught Wednesday evening.
