West Virginia's own weather prognosticator is set to forecast the onset of spring this weekend.
FRENCH CREEK W.Va. -- West Virginia's own weather prognosticator is set to forecast the onset of spring this weekend.
French Creek Freddie will celebrate Groundhog Day with his prediction at the West Virginia State Wildlife Center on Saturday. The groundhog has delivered his prediction every year since 1978.
Visitors to the center also can listen to poems and songs, enjoy refreshments and compete in various wood chucking contests.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
Wildlife Center Biologist Gene Thorn said he hopes the fact that Groundhog Day falls on a Saturday, when children are out of school, will draw a larger than usual crowd.
