HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The children of U.S. Marine veteran who died last year have accepted his degree from Marshall University.

The four children of Owen M. Moul attended a ceremony Friday at the Marshall Memorial Student Center in Huntington. Accepting the degree were Sydney, 14, Sierra, 8, Owen Jr., 7, and Zane, 1.

The university said Moul died Nov. 23 at his Barboursville home at age 34. He was a native of Phoenix.

The children received a diploma for a Regents bachelor of arts degree their father was pursuing. RBA degrees are awarded for selected work and life experiences that can be equated to college courses.

Moul was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. His teacher at Marshall, Chris White presented the diploma, calling Moul his "best student" in nine years of teaching.
