Wheeling casino manager to open Ohio property

WHEELING, W.Va. -- The general manager of Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack is leaving West Virginia to help open a new casino in Ohio.

Delaware North Companies announced Friday that Jim Simms will start his new job in April.

It didn't immediately name the property he'll open but called it a joint venture between Delaware North and Churchill Downs Inc.

Last fall, the Ohio Lottery Commission was reviewing applications from companies hoping to run slot machines at harness racing tracks.

One was for Lebanon Raceway from the Miami Valley Gaming and Racing -- a joint venture of Delaware North and Churchill Downs.

Simms joined Wheeling Island in 2006, and helped lead the company to record revenues and profits.

He oversaw the launching of table games and was named president and general manager in 2008.
