Winds blamed for school lockdowns in Follansbee

FOLLANSBEE, W.Va. -- Brooke County authorities have found the culprit responsible for three schools being placed on temporary lockdown.

But it wasn't a criminal. It was the wind.

Brooke County Sheriff Chuck Jackson says a report of a man trying to force his way into a house turned out to be a neighbor's relative checking on homes after the wind tripped a burglar alarm.

Jackson tells WTOV-TV that the front door of one house was unlocked. When the man entered, people inside thought he was trying to break in.

The break-in report last Wednesday prompted three nearby schools to be placed on lockdown.

A real home invasion occurred at the residence two years ago.
