Quit smoking

Wellness Council of West Virginia will offer a free smoking cessation workshop from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Family Care conference room, Patrick Street Plaza. Sorority meeting

Charleston City Council of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority board will meet at 6:45 p.m. Thursday at the South Charleston Municipal Court Building. The general business meeting will begin at 7 p.m. President Anne Stone will conduct the business meeting. All officers and committee members are to attend. The guest chapter this month is Alpha Lambda Master.

Open stage

Unity of Kanawha Valley will be home to the monthly Open Stage and Coffee House with host Ron Sowell at 7:30 p.m. Friday at 804 Myrtle Road, corner of Bridge and Myrtle roads. Musicians are welcome to come and share their talents in a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere. Performers sign up at 7 p.m. General admission is $5. Admission for performers, seniors and children is $2. Various coffees, teas, soft drinks, and delicious homemade treats are available at a small cost.

Historical society

The St. Albans Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Historical Society Building at 404 Fourth Ave., adjacent to the St. Albans Depot. Larry Rowe will give a presentation on the early salt industry in Malden. Refreshments will follow.

Income tax help

The City of Hurricane will be hosting the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The tax assistance program will be held all Saturdays in February and March at Hurricane City Hall. To make an appointment, contact Christine Spaulding at 304-546-7578.
