WVANG's 167th Airlift Wing pulls out of air show

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- An annual air show at Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport will be hosted this year by civilians instead of the West Virginia Air National Guard.

Organizers of the Thunder Over the Blue Ridge Air Show announced Tuesday that the Guard's 167th Airlift Wing has withdrawn from the event.

The 167th's commander, Col. Roger Nye, attributed the decision to budget uncertainties.

The Guard unit had hosted the air show since 2010.

Organizers say this year's event will be moved to the airport's civilian side.

Proceeds from the air show benefit the United Way of the Eastern Panhandle. It will be held May 11-12.
