CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Bible Center School will hold its fourth annual Giving to Grow gala at 6:30 p.m. March 1 at 100 Bible Center Drive. Proceeds go directly to support the school's annual fund.
Tickets are $25 and may be purchased by calling 304-346-0431 or stopping by Bible Center School, 1111 Oakhurst Drive.
This year's gala theme is "BCS Celebracion ... y Mas," featuring student performances in Spanish and a catered dinner.
"Beautiful Minds," works of art created by students from preschool through eighth grade, will be exhibited and offered for sale in a silent auction and exhibition from Feb. 25 to March 1 in the school lobby. The goal for contributions of all kinds is $100,000.
In previous years, donations have enabled Bible Center School to start a middle school, interscholastic athletic competition, implement Spanish and art programs, and enhance technology.
CSX gives to Guard
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, as commander in chief of the West Virginia National Guard, has commended CSX for donating $25,000 to the West Virginia National Guard Foundation.
The foundation provides financial support to Guard members, such as funds to homeless members, lodging money for the families of hospitalized members, and assisting with other emergencies and needs.
"Every time disaster strikes the Mountain State, members of the West Virginia National Guard rush to the aid of their neighbors to provide rescue and relief services for our citizens," said J. Randolph Cheetham, CSX's regional vice president for state relations. "These brave men and women answer the call to duty with the utmost professionalism and efficiency in a spirit of kindness and caring."
Montessori reunion
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Luminaria Gala for former students, parents and teachers of Mountaineer Montessori School will take place at 5:15 p.m. March 28, at the Clay Center, featuring entertainment, auctions, special menus, creative activities and dancing for children and adults.
Original music and presentations written by students will be performed. Faculty member Ron Sowell will serve as master of ceremonies.
Reservations are $75 for adults, $25 for children ages 4-18, and $15 for MMS students. Proceeds benefit the school.
The school is seeking contact information for former students, parents and teachers since its founding in 1976. The all-ages event is Charleston Montessori's first reunion. MMS alumni and friends should forward contact information to bgeo...@mountaineermontessori.org.
Men's shelter needs
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Crossroads men's shelter needs the following items:
Pine-Sol, 30-gallon trash bags, toilet tissue, hand sanitizer, food handling gloves, lunchmeats, soups, Ramen noodles and any canned goods.
Items may be dropped off anytime from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Crossroads, 503 Leon Sullivan Way.
Students donate food
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Students at Charleston Catholic High School, as part of Catholic Schools Week, collected the following food and delivered it to Trinity Table between Jan. 27 and Feb. 1:
137 pounds of spaghetti noodles (about 1,096 servings)60 pounds of other types of pasta.Nearly 23 gallons of spaghetti sauce1 can of Parmesan cheese2 cans of tunaTrinity Table serves dinner to the hungry at 5 p.m. Sundays at Trinity Lutheran Church on Kanawha Boulevard.
