20th Century Images: Watts Street station
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Notice in the distance the tower of the Bream Memorial Church. This is a very rare photo because the station is long gone. I talked to an old gent and he recalled working for the Owen & Barth Funeral Home to pick up the bodies at Watts Station to take them to Owen & Barth for burial. The bodies were victims of the 1918 flu epidemic from the Nitro explosive plant. Hundreds of workers died because of this pestilence.Today the tracks are used by Norfolk Southern.
