Advertiser

Police and paramedics in Kanawha County responded to several accidents Saturday night as heavy snow fell and made roadways extremely icy.

Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatchers said many callers reported near white out conditions along the interstates 8:30 p.m.

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service predicted up to 2 inches of snow in more elevated areas of the county. At least 10 accidents were caused by weather-related conditions Saturday night, dispatchers said.

Putnam County 911 dispatchers said highway officials closed Interstate 64 from the Hurricane exit to the Milton exit because of extreme weather just before 9 p.m. Police closed portions of Interstate 77 and Interstate 79 while responding to accidents and stranded motorists.

Meteorologists issued winter weather advisories in affect until Sunday for counties including Grant, Mineral, Pendleton, Greenbrier and Nicholas.
