HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- A woman died in the hospital Tuesday after a suicide attempt at the Western Regional Jail, officials said.

Regional Jail Authority spokeswoman Ashley Bennett said jail staff found Courtney Powell-Dillon, 29, of Proctorville, Ohio, on Monday. Powell-Dillon apparently tried to hang herself and was unresponsive when she was found.

Bennett said Powell-Dillon had a pulse when staff members found her, and they performed CPR until paramedics arrived. Powell-Dillon was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, where she died Tuesday.

Powell was not on suicide watch, Bennett said.

Cabell County sheriff's deputies arrested Powell-Dillon in February 2012 on multiple felony fraud charges and charges of being a fugitive from justice from Lawrence County, Ohio. She was indicted by a Cabell County grand jury in September and was awaiting trial.
