FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. -- A Fayette County Sheriff's Department tax deputy faces embezzlement charges after her cash drawer allegedly came up short Tuesday.

Patricia Ann Walker, 52, of Oak Hill, was charged with falsifying accounts, a felony, and a misdemeanor charge of embezzlement, Fayette Sheriff Steve Kessler said in a news release.

A surprise internal audit Tuesday revealed approximately $150 missing from Walker's cash drawer, Kessler said. Walker had not been arrested as of Thursday afternoon.

Kessler said the State Auditor's Office helped his department establish safeguards when he had problems with missing money before.

"I am pleased to say that these procedures are working," Kessler said.
