The City of Refuge Church: 11719 MacCorkle Ave., Chesapeake, will celebrate their pastor's 13th Anniversary with a pre-anniversary service at 6 p.m. tonight. The guest speaker will be Pastor Audrey Powell and her congregation from Vineyard Love Ministries. Music will be provided by area singers.

Miscellaneous:

Hopewell Baptist Church: located in Hopewell, will have the Men's Annual Prayer Breakfast at 8 a.m. today at the church. All pastors, deacons and laymen of the Hopewell Baptist Association churches are invited to attend. Food and fellowship will be featured. Pastor is Mike Anderson.

Cross Lanes United Methodist Church Youth Group: will hold its annual book sale at 8 a.m. today and Sunday at the church, 5320 Frontier Dr., Cross Lanes. Paperbacks are 50 cents and hardbacks $1. The book sale proceeds go toward the youths' annual mission trip to Tuckerton, N.J., to work with Superstorm Sandy relief.

Dr. Ramanathan Sampath: a native of India, will present an in-depth study of the Hindu concepts of Karma and Reincarnation/Samsara at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Lay Academy of Religion class in the activities building, Room 201 of First Presbyterian Church, 16 Leon Sullivan Way. The topic "How Shall We Love our Neighbor as Ourself, when our neighbor may be so different?" continues with Dr. Robert O. Newman as leader. The study is free and the public is welcome. Living Water Worship Centre: 513 Patrick St., West Side, will have a one day women's seminar hosted by lady Vanessa White from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 9 at the church. The theme is "Inside Out." Speakers include: Evangelist Lameesha McNeil of Church of God MPGT Ministries, Minister Tamara Eubanks of First Baptist Church, Elder Lynn Goebel and Roz Williams of King of Glory International Ministries. The Achievers Class: of the Fifth Avenue Church of God in South Charleston will open its Clothes Closet from 10 a.m. to noon today at the church. Clothes are free to families and individuals in need. The Lay Academy of First Presbyterian Church: will sponsor a free public forum on "Celebrate India: A Cradle of Civilization," at 4 p.m. March 3 in the Main Sanctuary of the church, located at the corner of Virginia Street and Leon Sullivan Way. The purpose of the program is to promote dialogue, learning, knowledge, and understanding across cultures around the world. Panel members will represent Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Zoroastrianism, Islam, and Christianity. The topics are: "How does your faith tradition express spiritual truth the human race needs to hear and embrace today?" and "Taking the theme of 'Peace' as a goal which all religions seek to promote, how does your faith community address this goal if we also take the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a model for us all?" A question and answer period will be held. A reception will follow featuring food catered by Little India Restaurant. Fairlawn Baptist Church: 20th Street and Fletcher Ave., Dunbar, will have an indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 2 in the Family Life Center, former Mound School. The Christian Family Book Shoppe in Smithers: will offer a free vacation Bible school workshop Monday in the meeting room at the shop. An open house will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. and presentations begin at 7 p.m. Several publishers will be represented at the workshop and refreshments will be served. The performers have chosen the cause to which all donations will go. Fisher Memorial Church: will have a gospel sing at 7 p.m. today at the church. The Believers, Miller Quartet, Freeman Newhouse, The New Life Singers and Choir will sing. The Gospel Harmony Boys and The Laborers Quartet: will be singing at 7 p.m. March 2 at the Glasgow Church of the Nazarene, located on the corner of First Street and Second Avenue in Glasgow.
